Virgin ad for Robbie Keane

I had a laugh when I saw this ad in the newspapers.

Robbie Keane leaves Liverpool

The transfer window closed yesterday and Robbie Keane left Liverpool to go back to Spurs. I am still trying to get to grips with this transfer. Keane only joined us 6 months ago from Spurs and was set to form a great partnership with Torres upfront but now we will never know how great that partnership would have been. When Keane joined us in the summer I was happy. I thought we finally had two players, him and Torres, who could fire the goals to lead us to the title, but Keane never really got going infront of goal. As for the partnership with Torres, Torres has been injured for large parts of the season thus they never had enough time to really form an understanding. I feel Rafa was quick to loose faith in Keane and why is that?

Robbie Keane is going nowhere… For now

After Robbie Keane’s no show at Sunday nights F.A. Cup tie against Everton, many of us had thought that this signaled the end of Keane’s time at Anfield. But for now it looks like he will still be around as Rafa has said Keane is in the squad for the match against Wigan on Wednesday. It is said that Keane was upset with being left out of the squad to face Everton on Sunday as Rafa had opted to go with Ngog on the bench. I am not a fan of Ngog and would rather see Keane picked ahead of him any day but Keane has not done enough for me during his time at Liverpool to warrant him a regular place in the match day squad.

Should He Stay Or Should He Go Now ??

3 mins to go - drawing 2-2 with Hull, a chance to go 4 points clear at the top of the EPL - we need a goal, we need a goal. One sub to make - who’s on the bench, who could get us a goal? Lets see Lucas or Robbie, Lucas or Robbie - yes def - Lucas - on ya go son your the man for the job

WHAT IS GOIN ON !!!

We spend a fortune on two strikers and end up on Saturday leaving one of them on the bench and when a goal is required Rafa puts on a midfielder who has yet to score in the league this season. I know we are still top and I do think Rafa is a good manager but sometimes his decision making leaves me completely baffeld as well as everybody at home and in Anfield watching the match. Saturdays goings on has made the whole transfer of Robbie Keane a complete shambles and quite simply a bit of an embarrassment, especially for Robbie. Obviously Rafa has lost faith with his new player if he thinks that Lucas had more chance to get us a win.

So what does this mean for Robbie Keane. Is he going to be off-loaded in January for a loss or will he be given more time to prove himself. I personally believe that he should be given more time but a lot of people seem to be losing faith with his abilities. I thought he had a decent game against PSV in midweek and was directly involved in some of the goals. So why did he end up with splinters in his ass from the bench on Saturday. he couldn’t have been injured or else he wouldn’t have even made the bench, so as I have said confusion reigns in my eyes. If you are not going to play him or put him on and that particular time of a game when we need a goal then what is his purpose at the club?

Gerrard and Keane will not play against Spurs

Tagged Under :

Rafa came out today and said that Gerrard and Keane will not be playing in the Carling Cup tomorrow against Spurs. It is really no surprise as I see a lot more first team regulars being rested tomorrow for this tie. Stevie needs a rest as he has been playing a lot of football lately and so to Keane who is also carrying a slight groin strain. I also see the likes of Kuyt, Alonso, Mascherano, Arbeloa and Carragher being rested.

Two goals to get the monkey off his back

Tagged Under :

We finally saw Robbie Keane get his first Premiership goals for Liverpool this weekend against West Brom. It was never a question of if Robbie was going to get his first Premiership goals but just a matter of when. Going into the game on the weekend, I also had the same mentality that it was no matter of if we were going to beat West Brom but more like by how much. 3-0 may sound good but I wished it was more.

Show him Robbie!

Tagged Under :

I guess I was not really surprised when Sir Alex Ferguson came out and said he thought the signing of Robbie Keane for 20m was the surprise transfer of the summer. He clearly does not believe Keane was worth that amount. As Robbie has now come out and said today, “Football is about opinions and everyone is entitled to their own.”

How many times in the past have we seen managers talk about players from other teams and those same players they talk ‘badly’ about come back to haunt them? We do not have to look too far; look at how Rafa bad talked Drogba last season before the second leg of the Champions League semi-final and then Drogba punished us! It is only natural for a player to react when another manager talks about them. Now Robbie has the perfect opportunity to show Ferguson who he is and I can bet you Robbie is going to get off the mark this Saturday and score the winner against Manchester United.

Alonso and Keane bag international goals

Well we had a large group of meaningless international fixtures today clogging up the middle of the week for us today.

Of note, Xabi Alonso scored twice as Spain beat Denmark 3-0. Agger was present in the opposing line up, and Fernando Torres picked up an assist on one of the goals.

Everyone’s most anxiously awaited goal scorer this season decided to pick up a goal for his country as well in Robbie Keane. Hopefully that’s a preview for the weekend when he gets his first chance to open his account in front of the Kop.

He stretched his Irish career goal scoring record to 34 goals.

Liverpool 4 - Valerenga 1

Just a few quick notes about today’s friendly:

1. Robbie Keane showed the kind of vision we are expecting out of him with his backwards flick onto Alonso for his beautiful curling opener. I think perhaps Xabi is quite eager to show he belongs at Liverpool and only good could come of that.

2. David Ngog, who is this guy? Another quality finish, and again showing decent touch on the ball. I think we may have a steal on our hands if he can keep his composure in the league as well as he has thus far. Only being 19 though, he has a good ways to go yet in terms of development, so score one for Rafa and the scouts.

3. Not to be negative Nancy, but we certainly can use some tightening up at the back in terms of concentration and positioning. Usually the pillar of our defense, the most likely guilty party throughout the match was Carra. I think he is having to cope with having lost a step, and needs to turn to Big Sami’s book of Anticipation. Let Agger or Skrtel do the running and provide that last line of defense that he always has. I have no worries about Jamie though, he’ll have it right for the beginning of the campaign.

I had to bicker about something, but four more goals in a sea of Red in Norway was an impressive display nonetheless. Thanks to all the supporters up there for showing our boys such a fine reception. Hopefully we can all now begin to enjoy a run to the title together.

Kop chants for Robbie Keane

It may be a bit too early but we certainly need to come up with a song for our new signing. I am sure Robbie is going to bag a couple of goals for us and how great it would be to have a song for him belted around Anfield. It would be so easy to just go with the ‘There’s only one Keano’ song that was heard at Old Trafford during the Roy Keane days but there is no way we can sing the enemies song.

Please feel free to leave you suggestions. I have come across two potentials already: Read the rest of this entry »
