Rafa came out today and said that Gerrard and Keane will not be playing in the Carling Cup tomorrow against Spurs. It is really no surprise as I see a lot more first team regulars being rested tomorrow for this tie. Stevie needs a rest as he has been playing a lot of football lately and so to Keane who is also carrying a slight groin strain. I also see the likes of Kuyt, Alonso, Mascherano, Arbeloa and Carragher being rested.

This gives Rafa the perfect opportunity to field some of the young guns such as Ngog, Lucas, Insua and Plessis together with fringe players such as Pennant and Hyypia. Even though we will field a ‘second team’ in the game, I am still confident we can get the win. Of great interest will be to see if Torres starts the game. He will be in the squad and it is just a matter of if he starts or comes off the bench. He needs to get some match fitness after his injury and this is the perfect situation for him.

As much as many people look down on the Carling Cup, I would want nothing more than to see us win and progress and hopefully win this trophy.
