It has been reported that Liverpool have agreed to meet Derby County’s £12million fee for young midfielder Will Hughes. It has been well documented that Liverpool need some central midfielder reinforcements but surely Will Hughes is being signed for the future and not expected to come in and do a job straight away?

Will Hughes is only 18-years old has has no Premier League experience. Yet again, Liverpool could be paying a bit too much for a young British player. It is highly likely that Hughes could be loaned back to Derby for the rest of the season if this deal goes through in January.

It is being suggested that Will Hughes would be coming in as the long term replacement for Steven Gerrard. Over the weekend, former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby said that it is time for the Reds to start looking for a replacement for Gerrard and he suggested Lars Bender as a possible candidate. I do not know about you, but Bender would seem to be a better immediate solution for Liverpool than gambling on Hughes.

The news of this deal has been met with mixed reactions from the Liverpool fans and this is what they had to say:

Will Hughes has to produce the goods but if he is anywhere near as good as he is supposed to be by the time he is 22/23, then 12mil is chump change.

is this an over-spend? who knows, because it’s really an investment. downing was an over spend, because we were pretty much getting what we saw. in huges case, we don’t know so it’s a gamble and an investment.

  2. nice deal for Hughes he only need to be Gerrard’s friend

Joe Allen part 2.. more stupid spending. More overpriced brit crap who will probably not be with the club in 3 years.. why do people think that brit players are worth 3 times their foreign peers who are almost always more talented and play with more passion. When did dalglish get re-appointed??

  4. He is overpriced and overrated. Should have save the money.

Surely if he’s as good as they say this is good business and part of the new philosophy – buy young talent which will increase in market value. Ronaldo cost the scum £15 million. The crucial point is – is he that good? Time will tell.
