The news just seems to be getting better today for Liverpool fans, following the announcement that we have agreed a deal with Blackpool for Charlie Adam, we now know that Glen Johnson has signed a new deal with Liverpool that will keeper the England international at Liverpool for a longer time.

Damien Comolli told the official website that he was glad Johnson has signed a new deal as he still has a lot to offer the club.

Comolli said, “We are absolutely delighted. We were in talks for a few weeks, but it was easy to find an agreement because he wanted to stay and we wanted him to stay.

“We are very pleased he wants to commit long term, and I think he was pleased we went to him and asked him to commit long term.

“His best years are to come. Very often defenders peak between 26 and 31, so he is just entering into those years where a maturity comes in and his knowledge of the game gets better and better. We are happy his long-term future is at Liverpool.”

Comolli added: “It’s obvious when you watch him play his technical ability is second to none. Physically he is absolutely fantastic as well and his fitness level is great.

“Towards the end of last season he showed how versatile he is by playing at left-back or right-back – mostly at left-back – and was outstanding.

“For us he is a great asset to have around. As we’ve always said, we don’t want to sell our best players or sell our assets and as long as the players are happy to be here, we’re happy to commit to them.”

I know many fans have had their questions marks about Johnson and he was one of the players who some thought may be sold this summer in order to increase our transfer budget as we would have gotten a fairly high fee for him. Coupled with the emergence of Kelly and Flanagan at right-back it was thought that we may not need Johnson anymore especially following his poor spell under Roy Hodgson.

Now that he has signed a new deal, it means that he is firmly part of Kenny’s plans.

    would rather kelly play rb

  3. dan says:

well we require two, one as back up so kelly and johnson are fine, I believe flanno is going out on loan. But I think this spells the end for raul.

  4. maljay says:

No Rolando. Kelly is a natural Centre Back, and that is where we need a quality player. Much rather see him at CB long-term abd I’m sure that’s the plan

I’m not kidding there’s no pleasing the fifa an pro evo dick heads this is the real world an player power wins. Most want CL football an most of the dizzying names won’t look to Liverpool due to wage age an stats these mercenaries can fuck off to money bags city or Chelski. The players who want to make a difference improve an take the club further are being sounded out an gettin dealt with. So stop fuckin complaining when your fifa LFC dream team doesn’t look like the one on the pitch. Made up for Johnson just proves the hacks have fuck all out the club as no one seen it coming. YNWA to all those patient an realistic fans.
