I think this is the first time I have heard Rafa publicly say that David Villa is on his ‘wanted list’. Rafa said, “Villa we know all about. He is on our list. But maybe it will be difficult.” Now that Crouch is set to leave and join Portsmouth, Liverpool need another striker. Now there is only Torres, who we all know what he can do and then you have Kuyt, Voronin and Babel and Gerrard who can play just behind the striker. So in essence, if something happens to Torres, injury or form wise, we will not have a striker capable of scoring 20 goals. So Rafa has to go out and buy another capable striker.

It would be a dream come true if David Villa could join Liverpool but as Rafa said, it will not be easy to get the Spanish hitman to leave Valencia and fight off competition from other leading teams in Europe for his services. But in Rafa we believe and I am sure if he really wants Villa he can convince him to join Liverpool.

On the other hand, there has been a lot of talk about Robbie Keane coming to Liverpool. So I guess it will be a decision between Villa and Keane. I am not too sure who I would rather have. Keane we know how well he can play in the Premiership, Villa we are not too sure if he can adapt to the English game but if he can then what a player we would have!

My main fear with signing Villa besides his ability to adapt to the English game is; how will the Liverpool system and formation have to change to accommodate Villa? I can not see Villa or Torres being on the bench as both of them would have to start. Would that mean we have to go back to a 4-4-2 formation or keep the existing formation and have Villa playing on the left where Babel played? There are dozens of questions that can be asked and I am sure Rafa has gone through all of them and maybe even some we have not even thought of and I am sure in the end he will make the right decision. So let us just wait and see what happens.

I think we should just sign Villa and tehn discuss the options once we have him wearing the number 7. As Bill Shankley said, “If you in the box with the ball and you dont know what to do with it, stick it into the net and we will discuss the options later.” Lets do the exact same thing in the transfer market with Villa and Silva.

If only we had the luxury to splash out millions of cash like Chelsea do and not care if they flop or not then we could do as the great Bill said. Unfortunately we have to be careful with our spending and thus we have to make sure Villa would work. Rafa would have seen how Villa and Torres played for Spain and then he has seen how Gerrard and Barry can play together and now he has to find a way to intergrate all those together.

we have to get villa. we would run the tradtional 442 formation with a diamond formation with the midfield. torres and villa at the top. wow, that would be a mouth watering frontline

I think we will all love to see Villa at Anfield. I hope we can get him and that his arrival would not disturb Torres’ game. But I would not mind 25 goals from each of them.
