Reports on the weekend had made a shock suggestion that Rafa is after Robbie Keane. I did not take this seriously then but this morning, The Sun reports that Robbie Keane wants to quite Spurs and join Liverpool. The report suggests that we will offer Spurs £5m plus Crouch for the deal to bring Keane to Anfield. Doing the figures; Spurs value Keane at £20m which I think is a ridiculous valuation. There is no way Robbie Keane can be worth more than £10m. Maybe a straight swap; Keane for Crouch would make more sense.

I can’t blame Keane for wanting to join Liverpool, he is 27 and has very few years of top flight football left and he desperately wants to play in the Champions League. The question now is; would Keane fit into the Liverpool system and is he really worth buying?

Buying Keane would mean that Gerrard would have to drop back into central midfield as Keane would now be playing the role just behind Torres. I am not too sure about a Keane – Torres partnership. It has great potential on paper but I am not too sure how well it would work on the field. Unless we keep the current 4-2-3-1 formation and have Keane – Gerrard – Babel / Kuyt playing behind Torres, maybe that would work. I am still in shock that we are being linked with Robbie Keane. I had never thought we would honestly target him.
