Lucas Leiva did not feature in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Stoke on Sunday and it is being reported that the Brazilian midfielder has fallen out with the club and may be set to leave the club.

Paul Joyce writes in the Express:
Another concern centres on Liverpool’s strength in depth in midfield with Lucas left out of the squad entirely following a fall-out which presumably now promotes the prospect of a parting. He would need replacing.

Lucas is one of the longest serving players at Liverpool right now, having joined the club in 2007. During his time at Liverpool he has received mixed reactions from the fans due to his performances and his constant injuries. There is no doubt that when Lucas is fit and in form, he is one of the best defensive midfiedlers in the league. But his compounding injuries and age may be taking a toll on him and maybe Brendan Rodgers sees it fit that Lucas in no longer part of his plans.

The Brazilian midfielder is one of the most active Liverpool players on social media (Twitter and Instagram) and it is interesting to note that he has not mentioned anything yet relating to the victory on Sunday over Stoke. Especially since his fellow countryman Coutinho is the one who got the winner. You would have expected Lucas to be congratulating his team mates but maybe the rumours could be carrying weight that he has fallen out with the club and thus he is not commenting about his team.

If Lucas does leave Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers would need to go out and bring in another defensive midfielder to provide cover and one such player who has been linked with a move to Anfield is Real Madrid’s Asier Illarramendi.

This whole story seems to be based on just one journalist’s passing comment. What reason is there to take this seriously? The journalist in question didn’t even seem to make any type of scoop out of the fact that Lucas had supposedly fallen out with Rodgers. Every news outlet is now reporting this as if it were gospel. That remains to be seen….

“And so it starts, a none story getting plagiarised by every idiotic blog on the net and the story getting more and more sensationalised as it gets bigger. the headlines will end up something like “Rogers tried to strangle Lucas”.

  3. He didn’t buy him, so he wont be playing him

    Simple as that
