Several reports, including The Express suggest that Liverpool have once again began proceedings pursuing the signature of Italian striker, Mario Balotelli. The former Manchester City frontman would command a transfer fee of around £17.5million and such a move would surely send shock waves around the football world.

It has been clear throughout the summer that cash-strapped Serie A outfit AC Milan would be willing to sell the controversial striker should an acceptable offer reach them and Liverpool were the club heavily linked with a bid earlier in the transfer market. At the time Brendan Rodgers firmly dismissed such a move saying “I can categorically tell you Mario Balotelli will not be at Liverpool.

“In my last press conference I was asked a question about Mario Balotelli and I talked about what a talent he was and what an excellent player he was and the next day it was wrote as if we were signing him.

“I just gave my perception of him as a player. It shouldn’t be transmitted in to us signing the player.”

Many will continue to question the striker’s attitude but his strike rate speaks for itself. Balotelli has hit 30 goals in 54 appearances for Milan and before that 20 in 54 for Manchester City. He has 33 Italian caps.
