With only a few days to go before Sunday’s big clash against Manchester City, Liverpool have received a major boost as Daniel Agger has returned to training.
The Danish defender missed the last match against West Ham due to a knee injury but judging from the photos taken at Melwood today, Agger seems fit and ready to play come Sunday.

Mamadou Sakho filled in for Agger against West Ham and the Frenchman did a great job as he was up against Andy Carroll. Manchester City will offer a total different threat to that of West Ham as they have the likes of Silva, Nasri and Dzeko going forward.
It will be interesting to see who Brendan Rodgers opts to partner Martin Skrtel against City. Agger had been playing well alongside Skrtel before his injury and there are very few central defenders better with the ball at their feet than Agger. Brendan Rodgers has really taken an emphasis on the defenders and the goalkeeper playing the ball out from the back rather than just hoofing it forward. But at times Agger has been let down by his actual ability to defender and mark players. He has been beaten too cheaply at setpieces and one-versus-one situations.
As for Sakho, he is your typical hardcore central defender in the mould of a Skrtel and you know he will not shun away from any physical battles. He is not as great as the Dane with the ball at his feet but as we saw against West Ham, once he builds up some confidence he actually starts to look comfortable on the ball.
Would not say major boost , Daniel is now very injury-prone . Sakho should keep his place . More of a worry for me is Lucas or Allen starting the game .
