Liverpool striker Iago Aspas has said that he wants to leave Liverpool in search of regular first team football.

Aspas told FTBpro: “I’m not 20 years old anymore, I can’t go on loan and explode.

“I think the best would be to transfer to another club that I find the best fit for myself and the club.”

Aspas added: “This is the hardest part. I used to play almost all the matches and I arrived here playing much less. This is the tough side of football.”

The 26-year old Spanish striker arrived at Anfield last summer and was seen as a potential striking option for Brendan Rodgers. Aspas got his chance to play at the start of the season when Luis Suarez was still suspended. But when the Uruguay striker was back in the side, Aspas was relegated to the bench and he has never got a look in since then. It is unfortunate for Aspas as he has been part of a team which has Suarez and Sturridge playing in the striking department, and trying to dislodge those two on current form is impossible.

One can understand why Aspas is frustrated as any player will want to be playing more football. The few chances we have seen Aspas play, he has not covered himself in much glory and next season when we are back in the Champions League, we will need better quality backup if Suarez or Sturridge or injured or suspended.

I say that Liverpool should look at offloading Aspas if he is true to his word and wants to leave Anfield. We spent £7million to sign him from Celta Vigo and we will be lucky to get that same amount back for him.

Should Liverpool sell Iago Aspas?
