I want to start by saying, what a blessing to have Daniel Sturridge back and almost instinctively linking up with Luiz Suarez. He brings an absolute energy and passion to game.

But that’s not my topic of discussion today. Until yesterday I was neutral on the topic of Daniel Agger leaving for greener pastures in Europe¸ probably Napoli. I weighed up our other signings at the beginning of the season. It seemed we had that area well covered, despite possibly losing our squad’s vice-captain.
But watching our very edgy defensive performance yesterday made me think to what the big Dane actually brings to Liverpool. No doubt he started the season very shaky. But in the last few games he seemed to show signs of last season’s powerful force from the back, even playing on the wide left he seemed sure of himself, pressing attackers and pushing forward at the right times. In my view I personally think that a powerful combination of an inform Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel in the central defensive position is world class and should strike fear into attacks around the world , visually they are extremely intimidating. Not only that but pure defensive minded geniuses at times. I feel that without him playing that controlling roll at the back, defence is flimsy and Martin Skrtel tends to cause havoc on his own. Almost having no care, flying into tackles late and getting unnecessarily physical with opposing players off the ball.

Bottom line is we need to get him back to fitness as quickly as possible and keep him in a starting role as for the good of the club.
