The Mirror is reporting that Liverpool are interested in signing ex-Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou this January from French club Lille. The Ivory Coast star is seeking a return to the Premier League with Tottenham also said to be interested in the 28-year old. Lille are said to be willing to let Kalou leave for £2.5million.

Kalou is a decent player and he did relatively well during his six year spell at Chelsea where he chalked up 36 goals but mainly being asked to play out wide. At the end of his Chelsea contract in 2012, he was released by the club for free and he joined Lille. After having a good first season in France, this term he has been below par and it is no surprise that Lille would be willing to let him go. Why then should Liverpool want to sign a player who is out of form?

Liverpool do need to add some depth to the squad but I believe a player like Kalou would be of no real value to the side. What Brendan Rodgers needs right now are players than can come in and make an immediate impact on the starting lineup. If Kalou were to join the Reds, I doubt he would be a regular starter. He seems to play better when out on the flanks but can also double up as a striker. Liverpool have Raheem Sterling playing very well right now and it would be a shame if a player like Kalou were to come in a keep Sterling out of the side.

As much as Kalou can also be used as a striker, I would much rather have a Aspas play ahead of Kalou as an out-and-out striker. We have invested heavily in players such as Asaps and Alberto and it would be better to give them a chance ahead of a Kalou.

Kalou is 28-years old and I can not see FSG forking out the cash to bring a player who is getting close to the end of his career. This would be Kalou’s last big pay day and he would most likely demand a high salary which FSG would not want to spend on.

One thing Kalou would be good for is adding some experience to the Liverpool squad. Kalou was part of the title winning Chelsea sides and it would be beneficial to have a player in the squad who knows how to win the Premier League. Currently, only Kolo Toure has won the league title and I am sure he would help the rest of the lads if we are in the title race with five games to go this season.

This is one transfer I would be more than happy for Spurs to beat us on!

Actually Glen Johnson and Daniel Sturridge have also won the title with Chelsea. Toure won it with City and Arsenal.

I actually think this is would be a good move. Before Sterling got his form back Henderson was forced to play on the right wing. We’ve all seen how much better he is playing now that he is back in central mid.

Sterling is not going to be on form the whole season (he’s still a youngster) plus he has a habit of missing some easy chances – inexperience. The kind Kalou would put in. Those misses could prove costly.

I’d rather have Kalou available so that we have competition cover for Sterling.

P.S. Moses is not up to scratch. He is too casual in possession and is not on the rest of the teams wavelength
