Luis Suarez has recommended that Liverpool sign Uruguay striker Kevin Mendez according to reports in the Mirror.

Mendez currently plays for Penarol in Uruguay but he caught the eye of the rest of the footballing world at the Under 17 World Cup. Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are also said to be interest in the 17-year old who could be available for £3million.

Speaking before the Under 17 World Cup, Mendez seemed flattered with the links to the big teams. He told FIFA.com, “They’re just rumours. If it happens, it would be great for my family and me, and it is always nice when such clubs are interested in you. But there is nothing concrete yet. I’m totally focused on the U-17 World Cup and the team.”

I am sure Luis Suarez can have a big influence on Mendez’s decision on which club he ultimately joins in Europe and for as long as Suarez is at Liverpool, hopefully he can convince the young striker to join the Reds.

Liverpool have been hurt in the past when we signed Sebastian Coates who was meant to be the next big name in Uruguay football. Coates has been plagued by injuries at Liverpool and has failed to impress at all. Hopefully if Mendez joins Liverpool he would be much better than the giant centre back.

You can see what Mendez is all about in the video below. Do you think he would be a good signing for the Reds?
