Metro is reporting that Liverpool target, Daniel Amartey has had contact from the club and the 18-year old Ghanaian is hoping for a deal to go through.

‘I have been in contact with the Liverpool management.’ Amartey said.

‘I hope we can sort a transfer out – it’s a great club to play for.’

Amartey is currently playing for Djurgarden in Sweden as a central defender but has also been used in a central defensive midfield role which is the position I am hoping Liverpool are lining him up for. There is currently a wealth of central defenders at the club and there is really no point adding another one in. The position the clubs needs strengthening in is defensive midfield as Lucas is currently the only specialist there.

It is being reported that Amartey would cost the club £1.5million which seems fair enough, especially given the fact that he could go on to become a top player if he is given the right opportunities. Brendan Rodgers is known for giving youth a chance to flourish at the club so if Amartey joins and gets a chance to showcase his talent then that would bode well for the club.

It is all well for the club to be trying to buy youthful talent for the future but we still need to make sure we are able to bring in experienced players who can come straight into the side and deliver the goods. If Liverpool do make the Champions League next season then we would need a ready made defensive midfielder in the squad and not have to call upon someone like Amartey.
