Liverpool have received a timely boost today with Glen Johnson tweeting that he is ready to return to action. The England right back who suffered an ankle injury at the beginning of September against Manchester United tweeted that he is back.

‘Six weeks of hard work as paid off,’ Johnson tweeted. ‘Back with the team on Tuesday. Finally.’

This is great news for the Reds as we have missed Johnson. Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling have had to fill in at right back in the new 3-5-2 formation that the side is using. Johnson has not had an opportunity to play in this new formation but you can see that it is tailor made for him.

Although Henderson and Sterling have done decent jobs at right back, they are no match for Johnson and his attacking and defensive attributes. Andre Wisdom was a potential candidate to come in for Johnson when he picked up the injury but the young defender has not gotten a look in. Which makes me wonder why Rodgers did not send Wisdom out on loan if he was not prepared to use him when Johnson was injured?

When one looks at the current Liverpool side with the 3-5-2 formation, two key players have been missing in this setup, Johnson and Coutinho. Now that Johnson is back and ready to feature in the side, we just have to wait for Coutinho to recover from his shoulder injury and then we will have our perfect starting lineup for the new formation.
