With Suarez and Sturridge firing in the goals now for Liverpool, new summer signing Iago Asapas finds himself on the Liverpool bench and he is not enjoying life there.

Speaking to journalists in Spain as reported by Marca, the Spanish striker signed from Celta Vigo said, “It’s hard to accept when you’ve spent the last few years playing, but I knew it wasn’t going to be easy when I left Celta, and even more so now that my team is winning and joint league leader. Little by little I hope to get some playing time under my belt and resolve the situation.”

You can understand Aspas’ frustration at not getting much game time now, although he did feature regularly when Suarez was still suspended in the opening games of the season but he never really looked comfortable playing out wide. When Aspas joined Liverpool in the summer from Spain, he probably thought that Luis Suarez was going to leave Liverpool and he would be the main man upfront. But Suarez is still there and has formed a formidable partnership with Sturridge which will take some stopping.

One think Aspas must not do is put his head down, he must accept that he is Liverpool’s third choice striker and has to wait for either Suarez or Sturridge to get injured or have a serious dip in form. Brendan Rodgers must start giving Aspas more cameo roles in the last 15 or so minutes if the game is wrapped up, that way Aspas gets more game time and builds up his confidence slowly.

It is important for Aspas to be played in his best position which is down the middle. The experiment of playing him wide in a front three does not work. Hopefully the switch to a 3-5-2 formation will bring out the best in Aspas when he is called upon. Some fans have already said Aspas is not good enough but I think that is unfair, the guy must be given a fair chance.

To be fair he has not been very good when he’s been given starts. He needs to earn his way into the starting 11.

  2. He will have to be patient. Continue to work hard. Have the right attitude. I am sure BR would give him a chance to prove himself.

  3. aspas was a hero in celta vigo who scored several goal there nd helping them out of relegatn zone. I believe a time of play wil enable prove himself.

i just dont see him making it into d 1st team.sometimes i wonder if he is spanish.his ball retention and dribbling is zero.another flop in the making.

Terrible player. Lightweight and looks scared to have the ball. Will never be a first team regular. Luis Alberto looks even worse. 14 million wasted on these two when Christian Erikson was 11 million.

I agree with you Pete.. Chris would have been a better deal.. but I think Louis Alberto can still be a beast.
