Why oh why would Liverpool be looking to sign another central defender?
Liverpool are being linked with Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini but the 29-year-old Argentine has said he is not interested in leaving Newcastle at this moment in time but has said that Liverpool are interested in signing him.
“I never wanted to pay any attention to rumours about offers from other clubs,” he told reporters ahead of last night’s clash with Manchester United.
“I have experienced this at many clubs and the best thing is always to focus on your work and wait for developments.
“One of the names mentioned was Liverpool, but I haven’t spoken to anybody. I don’t think Newcastle are thinking about my either, either.”
In my opinion, Liverpool do not need another central defender right now. Instead we should be looking to signing a striker and a holding midfielder.

I hate trasfer windows, because anyone who we’ve ever scouted is linked by either their agent or the press or even worse joke sites who produce 100 rummours a day. It’s worth remembering that with Carra getting older, Coates and Wilson, still unproven at this level, we have to look at our options in the centre half departmet soon. So while I would prefer to see Coates, Wilson or Kelly (supposedly a better centre back than right back, hard to believe) we’d be daft not to look around. However what we desperately need is a goalscorer who could easily fire us into the Champions League
