Liverpool take on Fulham tonight (Monday) in the Premier League and we will be without Lucas after his injury against Chelsea in the Carling Cup ruled him out for the season.
Kenny Dalglish said he does not think Liverpool need to sign a replacement defensive midfielder for Lucas as we have enough cover in the side. This means that Dalglish is more than likely to start with Jay Spearing or Jordan Henderson in the place of Lucas.
Many Liverpool fans believe that Spearing would be the best replacement for Lucas and so too does Jamie Carragher. “It’s up to someone else now to come in and try to do as good a job as Lucas was doing,” Carragher said. “That won’t be easy as he’s been as good as anyone in that position in the Premier League this season.
“But Jay Spearing was outstanding towards the end of last season. He was superb in our win at Fulham.
“In the Carling Cup this season he’s also done really well. He has started away to Stoke and Chelsea – that’s two of the toughest away games you can get in the Premier League. He’s performed well and we got good victories in both of those Cup games.
“No-one will be worried one bit about putting Jay in there. He’s proven before that he’s more than good enough at this level and I’m sure he will prove it again.”
There have also been suggestions that Jordan Henderson could fill in and play alongside Charlie Adam in the middle of the park, a position which suites him better as opposed to play out on the right where Dalglish has used him mostly this season.

Hey Guys, i like the line up, but i would go with a 3-5-2 formation….
I always belief Jay Spearing who rose from the Academy rather than half baked imported talent be it from Brazil what not. Give him chance and he’ll be ready to take the callenge.
I’m sure Spearing will serve us well in Lucas’ absence. I could also see Kelly serve as a secondary backup in that position; he has pace, can break up plays, and doesn’t have a problem moving forward.
Spearo had before now proven dat he can hold d defencive midfield. So i c no chalenge@ all. He will definitely give his best.
You can do it spearo, go i am behind you folk
