The transfer rumour mill is at it again. The latest speculation links Liverpool with a move for Chelsea’s Nicolas Anelka. The 32-year-old striker has told Chelsea that he wants to leave the club due to lack of first team opportunities and his wish has been granted. Anelka has now been transfer listed by Chelsea and they will be looking for buyers in the January transfer window.
Liverpool need some firepower upfront and thus the link with Anelka. Anelka featured 20 times for Liverpool back in 2002 when he joined our club on loan but only managed to score 4 goals.
Now Anelka would be available for a relatively low fee but is he the kind of striker we need to act as back-up for Luis Suarez?
Let us not forget that Anelka is already 32-years-old and our new policy is to buy young players. I can not see Mr. Henry sanctioning the purchase of Anelka. But on the other hand, we would be bringing in an experienced player who knows how to play in the Premier League and who has bagged quite a number of goals over the years.
