The legendary Bill Shankly passed away on this day 30 years ago. He will forever be remembered as the man that transformed Liverpool Football Club into the “bastion of invincibility” it eventually became, conquering all of Europe and being feared by all.
It is perhaps fitting that his anniversary comes just before the weekend of the Merseyside derby. If the players ever needed any more motivation for this match, remembering his quotes, ideals and philosophies and fighting for the win in his memory should be more than enough. Kenny Dalglish will be sure to let them know.
R.I.P Bill Shankly. The Kop still mourns you.
