Charlie Adam has spoken out about his desire to only want to sign for Liverpool whilst he was still at Blackpool. Liverpool were first linked with a move fore the midfielder in the January transfer window but Blackpool refused to sell him as they wanted him to stay and help them avoid relegation.
Blackpool subsequently got relegated and it became obvious that Adam would leave and not want to play in the Championship. The likes of Tottenham and Manchester United were said to also be interested in signing Charlie Adam but Liverpool was the only place he wanted to go.
Adam said: “When the January window passed I never thought it would come back again.
“I never heard anything for the rest of the season and thought that was it. I was just concentrating on Blackpool, but fortunately Kenny Dalglish gave me the opportunity to sign in the summer.
“The first I knew it could happen again was when the bids came in and I told the chairman Liverpool was the only club I was interested in. Fortunately he did the deal with Damien (Comolli) to let me join the club.”
