Liverpool take on Brighton tonight (Wednesday) in the Carling Cup, a game which we should win on paper but you never know with these cup ties, especially away from home. Brighton are playing very well in the Championship but Liverpool should be tood good for them and we need to win this game so we can forget about the Spurs defeat on Sunday.

Kenny Dalglish has said that he will field a strong lineup against Brighton. “We will have a strong team out tomorrow night and we will treat it in the same manner as we treated the Exeter game. If we go there with the same attitude then we will give ourselves the best chance to win. Brighton are doing fantastically well after getting promotion and were sitting on top of the table until they lost to Leicester.

“It will be a difficult game. We have got to get ourselves right, concentrate on ourselves, do our homework on Brighton and take forward it from there. We will approach it properly and professionally. They were totally professional when we played at Exeter and we’ll have to do the same again if we want to get a result.”

Based on this, I can see King Kenny mixing experience with youth tonight. I thought Doni would start in goal in the last tie but Reina started thus I see our number one also starting tonight. Skrtel is suspended for this game so I can see Flanagan at right-back with Robinson at left-back. In the middle we should see Coates make his full debut alongside Carragher.

We have a lot of options in the middle. I would like to see Bellamy start wide on the right with Maxi coming in on the left. I doubt Gerrard will be fit enough to start the match so we could see him come on in the second half, meaning Spearing and Lucas could start in the middle.

Upfront: Suarez and Kuyt have looked very good playing together and seeing them start tonight would signal our intent of going all out to win the tie.

Who do you think will start for Liverpool tonight?

Andy Carroll needs match fitness so should start with Kuyt up front. Leave suarez as a sub just in case. Henderson could play in the middle in place of Spearing just to try him in his favoured role.

Here’s my predicted (and preferred line-up) for tonite:

    Reina
    Kelly – Carragher – Coates – Enrique
    Kuyt – Lucas – Spearing – Maxi
    Caroll – Bellamy

Subs: Doni, Flanagan, Wilson, Gerrard, Henderson, Downing, Suarez

The reason for this line-up is that Kelly must be eased back to match fitness and will probably get 60 min., Coates to be eased in before coming PL games, Spearing, Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy to get game time, and Caroll to hopefully get a goal or two and build confidence.

We should play the cowards who bottled it at Spurs, that was a disgrace. Get them out there and get a days work out of them, let them put right that disgrace we saw at Spurs!!!
