Raul Meireles has spoken out about his departure from Liverpool and he has insisted that he never wanted to leave Liverpool but when Andre Villas-Boas showed interest in him, he could not turn down the chance to link up with his former manager at Porto.

“When I was in Porto, I knew that I wanted to go and the club wanted to sell me, and I only had to wait for the right choice,” he told the official Chelsea website. “I made the right choice last year to come to England and to come to Liverpool.

“This year was different because I knew that I didn’t want to leave Liverpool. I felt that the new owners didn’t want to sell me but, when I knew that Chelsea and Andre wanted me, it convinced me.

“It was strange, because I knew of the interest of Chelsea, and the interest of the coach, and it was a pleasure to come to this club, but it was strange because it was on the last day. The people think that I wanted to leave [but] it is only because Chelsea wanted me. For Andre to want me, that is why I wanted to go.”

Previously Raul had said that it is too early for him to speak out about the real truth behind his move to Chelsea but I guess only time will tell what really happened behind the season that got Meireles to join Chelsea.

I think he is a cracking player but lightweight,i`d sooner have Adam,Lucas Gerrard (coming back)and Henderson as my lightweight
try knocking the first three off the ball and you can see why Kenny let him go,what do you guy`s think?. ynwa

I really loved him. But frankly kk can not leave his big money boys on d bench 4 Raul. Plus raul is injury prone. Wish him luck as chelski battle for 4th place. Liverpool will neva walk alone. YNWA

Is he slapping his own face?

Maybe we should ask him how much more his weekly wages would be by joining Chelski… that is probably the main reason after all…. just tell us the truth… like JUDAS 9 … do you think he is going to get more games at Chelski than at Anfield?… just gonna be a bench warmer with a much ” better bank heater ” ……

” yes you can leave big money players on the bench which mean you have quality on the bench” I feel KK is rotating the starting lineup. 70 min carrol 20 min suarez first match, 60 min suarez 30 mion carol second match against normal opposition. Both carrol and suarez make the defenders get tired quickly and when the other comes fresh mentally it affect the defenders..

Who cares??? The guy played half a dozen decent games and did naf all for the rest of the season, jumped out of tackles, and was never gonna get a game with the new lads anyway! Raul yer forgotten about mate just like torres. Is it just me or do these ex-players sound like ex-girlfriends who keep coming up to you in the pub saying ” i dont love you anymore” but wont leave you alone!!! Jeeeezus… Just jog on no-one cares!

i totally agree with neil if a player wants to go , let him go we have.not just a good team .. we have a great team with strength in depth. something weve been lacking for ages …ynwa…

Is it me or did he ‘justify’ his leaving by saying if he didn’t recieve an offer he wouldn’t have left? Wonder if the wife will forgive me if I said ‘I wasn’t gonna sleep with your cousin, but she asked me to’?
It was about the money and the fact he knew he was only a fringe player in the new set up, if you don’t have enough confidence in your own ability to fight for your place, then you havn’t got the ambition or drive you need to play for this club…

He is making absolutely no sense in his comment. I think Chelsea just offered him more money, simple as that.

been a defender and supporter of Raul, but with this statement you either question his english, or his aptitude. he didn’t want to leave; the owners wanted him to stay; chelsea wanted him; so he left. i’m spinning. still think we have too many ordinary center mid players, which we’ll see at stoke away. could have used his close control and flair at times, but Raul hasn’t clarified anything. better he kept his yap shut.

Ha ha,completely agree.ive never heard of a more jumbled, incomprehensible reason for leaving a club! All he had to do was to just say “i wanted to play for chelsea and their manager”.i thought there may have been a helping hand, from the club, pushing him out the door but after reading his explanation its now clear he engineered the move himself.the only help he got was from chelsea who asked him to hand in the transfer request.we wont lose any sleep over him goin
