Steven Gerrard has spoken out about the departure of Raul Meireles to Chelsea and our captain has said that he was disappointed that the Portuguese midfielder left but he believes it was the right decision to do for the club.

“It was a bit of a surprise because of the timing.” said Gerrard.

“I don’t think Raul had been too happy because he wanted more game time, but the players who have been playing before him have been doing really well.

“He put in a transfer request and I’m sure Kenny and (director of football) Damien Comolli thought if he’s going to be unhappy and doesn’t want to be here then it was better to move him on.

“It was probably the right decision and we got good money back for him.”

Do you think it was the right decision to sell Meireles?

Was selling Raul Meireles to Chelsea a good idea?

i have to say i was dissapointed that raul decided to leave the reds, however, i do think that with the midfield force we know have, it would have been difficult for raul to break back into the first team, dont forget even stevie gerrard isnt back yet !.. my meireles shirt is now hung up in the wardrobe along with my judas shirt.. i cant wish him well, lets just show him he made the wrong choice when we thump chelsea later in the year !

He didn’t get any asurance from kenny as per playing time, despite he been the catalyst for the win against arsenal.

That’s strange?? Cuz from where I was sat, it looked like suarez was the catylst for the arsenal win!! Raul was overated, he’d pull out of more tackletackles than anyone! Not exactly a fighting spirit! And if a player ain’t getting much game time, they meant to fight for their place back! Not put in a transfer request, half hour before the window shuts, that just goes to show, the lack of fighting spirit I was just talking about! Bottler!!

I’m not sure about this one. He thinks he’ll get more assured playing time at Chelsea?

Even the manager doesn’t get assurance of time at Chelsea, let alone a new midfielder!

If he wanted to make sure he plays every week, he should go join Hodgson at West Brom. Promise to hoof the ball and defend very deeply, he’ll be first on the team sheet every match.

    Is left 4 him

Chelsea seem to be only buying the players that scored against them (first Toress and now Meireles)!!

If only Ngog had scored a hat trick against the Blues – we could have got £25m for him!!!

He is good around the 18 yard box, and i only saw that when King Kenny took over, other wise he look poseccion very easy and he is not hard working.
he will became another flop like Torres.
