The Mirror is reporting that Craig Bellamy has told friends that he would jump at the chance of returning to Liverpool this summer. There has been quite a bit of speculation this week linking Bellamy with a return to Liverpool.

The 32-year-old striker is no longer wanted by Manchester City but Liverpool will only sign Bellamy if it is on a free transfer or on a season long loan. Which is perfect for us as we should spend as little cash as possible. With David Ngog set to leave the club soon, we need another striker to come in as back-up for Suarez and Carroll.

Liverpool fans have had mixed reaction to the prospect of Bellamy coming back to Liverpool following his one season spell at the club in 2007 under Rafa Benitez.

Wales manager, Gary Speed has come out and said that he thinks Bellamy moving back to Liverpool would be a great idea.

Speed said: “It is only natural Craig is going to be linked with top clubs because he is a top player.

“Liverpool are a fantastic club and if that is true and it comes off, that would be great.

“Hopefully by the end of the transfer window things will be sorted out.”

Should Liverpool re-sign Craig Bellamy?

Why not. Of City’s extra strikers, Adebayor would be first choice, but since he’s taken (and we couldn’t afford his wages anyway), Bellamy’s good too.

He wants to play. Loves the club. He gives 100% whenever he’s on the pitch. Great experience, good talent. He’d have to fight for his place or accept a regular spot on the bench, but I suppose he’d be fine with that.

Did he get an invite to Stevey G’s golf tournament?

He would be the ideal signing if done as a free transfer. It would cover a 12-18 month period allowing the younger strikers time to come through the ranks.

  7. Bill says:

If Ngog is going we need a replacement and he’d cost us less in wages than Ngog. It would give him his last season before he moves on to a coaching job with Wales.

Can’t maxi be a back up striker? He’s good too u know. A young striker would be great but if he can fit in without the club having problem of off loading the ‘dead woods’,then its fine too..
