Liverpool this afternoon (Monday) confirmed that Sotirios Kyrgiakos had left the club and joined Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.

32-year-old Soto was given a new one year contract earlier this summer by Kenny Dalglish but with Liverpool reportedly in the market for a younger centre-back, they have decided to sell the giant Greek defender.

We already have Carragher, Agger and Skrtel as our main centre-back options with Kelly and Wilson who can step in if need be. The likes of Gary Cahill and Scott Dann continue to be linked with moves to Liverpool and the departure of Soto could be because Liverpool believe they are close in bringing in another centre-back.

It would make sense to bring someone else in first before letting Soto go but I am sure Kenny Dalglish has it all figured out.

Cahill will join Liverpool Football Club before the upcoming game between the two teams this weekend. I can confirm through connections at Bolton FC that Gary has been given permission to talk with Liverpool over personal terms and expect a deal to be done in the next few days, including David N’gog moving in the other direction.
Watch this space – although cant say you heard it here first given the speculation over the last month or so!

We got 50 quid for him, which is more than we’d get for Cole and Poulson combined.

I hope you are right JD…that would make everybody happy. Cahill looks one hell of a player and I gotta think KD has a plan, of course, to cover for Soto’s departure. I liked Soto and he did a great job for thew $1M spent…wonder what we got for him. Sure he got skinned a few times but who hasn’t?! Overall he was a solid servant to the club but I will take Cahill anyday. Damn I hope you are right JD!!!

I liked Soto, except it took him three weeks to turn. I really do hope that this means someone is coming in. Agger is class, but fragile. carra is dedicated, but easily exposed against pace. Skrtl is, just substandard. If he is likely to be a first choice regular, we have real problems. I fully expect Kelly to end up as a regular first choice at CB, but not just yet while we need cover at full back. In the meantime, I hope Soto going means Cahill (preferably) or Dann is on the way to be first choice with Agger (when fit) and Carr (when Agger isn’t)

@JD: I dont know where u got ur news but am very sure Cahill wont be coming in a swap deal with Ngog.
Comolli twitted sayin it’s gettin increasingly difficult to get Cahill, so he has to go back to the drawing board.
…..he also gave the hint about Coates by sayin he would be on the hook shortly.
Am not claiming to get first information but I av learnt (from DC himself) that serious negotiations are goin on with Bellamy rite now.
He always guaranteed we will get a striker n defender b4 d window closes.
I just pray a natural RW is also in his plans.

Who is going to protect us from rich persians in the prem now?

We should sign Coates instead of Dann. Immensely talented and only 20.
