Valencia’s Juan Mata is on the verge of joining Chelsea. A statement on the Valencia website read: “Valencia Football Club has reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea FC for the transfer of the player Juan Manuel Mata. The agreement is subject to the relevant medical tests.”

There is no suggestion what the transfer fee will be for the 23-year-old World Cup winner who had been a target for Liverpool this summer. It is thought that Liverpool decided to buy Stewart Downing instead of Mata as the Spanish player was not and out and out winger in the class of Downing who could whip in crosses into the box for Andy Carroll.

Mata is awesome n was up for grabs. Now he’s gone unless the medical failure. But I hope we don’t miss out on 2 urgent positions where Central Defender is the most important now. The few prospects mentioned should be secured. Hope its a clever one not just noise as we’re at the top when making long-shortlists. And for Rodallega even if we fail to sell Ngog. If we are able to offload the deadwood soon its awesome but me, I’ll make sure Henderson don’t start this season or goes even out on loan as he is last in the pecking order at any given time. Sorry, this isn’t a soccer clinic. If it is why do we need to pay him and not just that we got him at 20m ? Everyone else will come out good and I’m quite sure. To have Aquilani for another season was my hope for he will need to prove his worth and save his carreer and his position in his national side. But to me he’s gone too. With Rodallea in Carroll will have no choice but work even harder. He seems to be getting there but just not yet enough for me.
