Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Stoke’s centre-back Ryan Shawcross. But Stoke manager, Tony Pulis has said that the defender is not for sale.

Pulis said: “We have got no need to sell Ryan. We want to spend money if we can.

“I think the chairman and the board have made it quite clear that their intentions are to try to improve the squad this year.

“We are very pleased with the defenders we’ve got, now we have to improve our midfield and forward line.”

So for now we can calm down about the speculation linking Liverpool with a move for him and maybe now, if we are really after another centre-back, we will focus on Scott Dann or Gary Cahill.

Shawcross is a much higher calibre player than Arjen Robben .
He is also much higher calibre than Lucas Podolski .

  2. REGHAN says:

let’s sign Per mertesacker instead. will make our central defence rock solid and should help us avoid conceding too many goals. He’s an international player and probably better value for money than Cahill, Dann or shawcross.
