The speculation surrounding players leaving Liverpool this summer is mounting as we get closer to the closing of the summer transfer window. Surprisingly, Chelsea have not been too active in the transfer window compared to their previous summers but reports are now suggesting that their new boss, Andre Villas-Boas, wants Liverpool’s Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles.

It is no surprise that Chelsea may be interested in our midfielder as Villas-Boas worked with Meireles at Porto when he was still at the club. Chelsea have been after Spurs’ Luka Modric and it does not look like Chelsea will get the Croatian thus the speculation linking them to Raul.

Now there had been suggestions at the start of the summer that Liverpool may be willing to sell Meireles if they get in an offer for £12million. With the arrivals of Henderson and Adam this summer at Liverpool it was suggested that there may not be room for Meireles in the side anymore. We saw a hint of that this past weekend when Meireles started from the bench for Liverpool against Sunderland.

Do you think it would be a good idea for Liverpool to sell Meireles to Chelsea?

Yday rumour was we were interested in Alex at £12m, today Chelski want Raul for £12m – coincidence or just more media bs?

  2. Bill Shankly says:

It would be a bad idea .
    .
Its always a bad idea to weaken your squad & Meireles is a decent option to have in reserve .
    .
It would only be a good idea for the player & his agent who will profit financially out of a transfer .
    .
He may even play more first team football there but for how long ?
    .
It cant be too much longer before Villa Boas gets the Scolari treatment .
We are under no pressure to sell , why should we help out a rival ?
    .
    It would be stupid .

Meireles? No way is he going to chelsea… But if at all its inevitable, we’ve gotta make it difficult for them. I say they pay us 20M.

too many midfield players, not enough forwards hmmm
I like Meireles but something might have to give, even with Stevie out injured Meireles only made the bench, I know its a judgement call as to who are the better players to keep but to think that other clubs will buy our weaker players (we all know who I mean) for big bucks is naive. Don’t want him or any decent player going to our prem rivals but if it happens then we have to play hard ball and get the best deal possible, it may be possible to lever Sturridge away befor the new manager realises what a star he can be, otherwise keep Meireles or sell him to a european club.

they can have him for 20million, no less…
