With Jose Enrique now officially a Liverpool player, Director of Football at Liverpool, Damien Comolli, had admitted that Enrique may be the last signing the club make this summer. Comolli highlighted that we need to sign a new left-back this summer as that was a n area we were weak in and he is glad that we have gotten a player whom he ranks as one of the best in the league in his position.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv, Comolli had this to say:
Enrique is our fifth major signing of the summer – are you pleased with the business the club have conducted?
Yes, very, very pleased but obviously we haven’t started playing yet, so time will tell if we were right – but I am convinced we were right in what we wanted to do. We’ve strengthened all the areas we wanted to strengthen with quality. Quality players are what we wanted. I think there is a lot of debate about prices for players and transfer fees paid, not just with Liverpool but throughout the Premier League, but if we have signed a player it is because we were happy to pay the price of the transfer fee we paid. For us it is not even a debate. We are very happy to have done the business we have done, we think it makes a lot of sense from a footballing point of view and makes a lot of sense from a financial point of view. We all hope that it is going to work out on the pitch.
Could Jose be the final bit of incoming business this summer?
You can never say never, but it is likely.
And are there likely to be any departures?
Yes, it is possible. As I’ve said before, some players would like to have more minutes and game time. We’ve had a few approaches for players, so it’s something we will look at.
we badly need a CB like Cahill or Dann I am also surprised that we have a plethora of CM but no proper RW or back up striker
Aquilani is one of d best midfielder in liverpoolfc nd in d world,pls let us give him another season 2 proof himself,nd i blieve dat he would be a good replacement 4 our injured midfielder(Stephen G)i wil be glad 2 see him in liverpool colour through out d season,nd d lyk of joe cole,christian poulsen,emiliano insua,should b throw out.
hmm i sure hope we sign a defender like dann or cahill, but perhaps kk will play wilson or kelly as cb.. as he believes they r gd enough to make an impact this yr..
Far be it from me to second guess a proven Footballing Genius & all around goos man like Kenny Dalglish but when I look at out front 3 , the 2 Kenny bought & Kuyt who Kenny is obviously happy to keep because of his attitude matching his good performances , I am both impressed with that as out 3 senior internationals competing for 2 places & I am excited to see how they mix & mtch over the course of the season & excited to see who outa the 3 of them gets the most goals .
I look at our Midfield options & I see Adam & Gerrard knocking 10 different shades of shit outa the Premier League like Whelan & McMahon did .
I look at Downing & I see the most consistent winger in England & one of the most under rated players to have played in the Premier League , the boy has a top class temperament , top class character & a top class football brain to match his feet ,
I see young Henderson catching fire down our right hand side , linking up with Gerrard , Adam & Suarez from the middle & playing the kind of two touch pass n move football legendary teams are remembered for , Forget the bullshit about him being one for the future or that his form faded last season , he was a 20 year old carrying a relegation battling side & he done it fantastically , watch & see how easy he makes it look when he has top class football brains like Gerrard , Kuyt , Suarez & Adam partying with him , those boys are gonna light up the league in a way not seen since Keegans Newcastle flattered to deceive .
Look beyond those 4 & we have highly experienced Premier League performers like Maxi who showed his true form under Kenny , Joe Cole , Raul Meireles , & probably the most tactically sound player under 25 anywhere in the world , Lucas & I see one hell of a rich club .
I look at our back line & I see Johnson at RB , big , strong , fast , very good feet , good concentration , good in the air , tackles well , probably the best RB in the league & when we get back in the CL he will be pressing hard for the title of Europes best .
I see “The Rock” Carra reading each game like a book & holding us together with his commanding experience he is going to be massive for us this season .
Either Skrtel or Agger beside him , I lean toward Agger but either are good enough to be the best in the league , there isnt a CB in the PL I would swap either for at this time .
At LB I see Enrique hitting the ground running a making a valuable contribution from day one , the boy is a good player , no strnger to the League , strong defensively & he is good going forward , he pass’s well & is faultless tactically .

He’s like a Spanish version of the crazy brave Grobbelaar , he frightens the shit outa attackers especially in 50-50’s , I have seen him make Drogba shit his pants & give up on through balls on more than one occasion .
I rate him higher than I do Bruce , he is a better all around keeper he is very unlucky to have an all time great in Casillas keeping him outa the Spanish side .
I see a squad thats going to be more than enough to get us into the top 2 by Xmas which is when we might need to look at bringing in a few more due to injury , suspension or whatever .
So far so good lads ,
