Alberto Aquilani put in another sound performance, this time for Italy against Spain on Wednesday night. Aquilani came on in the second half for De Rossi and he displayed some decent passes. Aquilani got the winner for his country through a deflected goal but you have to credit him for taking the shot.

It will now be difficult for Dalglish to leave Aquilani out of his plans for the game against Sunderland on Saturday, that is if Aquilani is still a Liverpool player by then. However, the Italian has said he would not mind staying at Liverpool this season.

“All I can say is that there has been a lot of talk,” Aquilani said.

“I wasn’t following the Italian media much over the summer, but whatever happens I am at a great club like Liverpool.

“I’d love to make my mark at Liverpool. The transfer market is open until August 31, so we’ll see what happens.

“Obviously I would take the offer of a permanent move into consideration with Liverpool.”

Aquilani does look class, but his best performances have continually been from off the bench. I think that he’s best used as a sub to come on to bring a new dimension to the game and some added flair.
