Liverpool have finally gotten their man according to The Times. Liverpool have agreed a £5.5million fee with Newcastle for left-back Jose Enrique. Liverpool have been searching for a left-back all summer and now it seems that our initial target, Enrique, is the one we will be getting.

We were linked with the likes of Clichy, Cissokho and Baines but none of those deals seemed to carry much weight.

Now with Enrique set to join Liverpool following his Twitter outburst where he claimed Newcastle lack ambition, our left side of defence will actually look solid this coming season with Enrique and Aurelio and Robinson as cover.

Enrique is set to arrive at Liverpool any time now to undergo his medical and agree personal terms with the club which should not be much of a headache. If this deal does go through for £5.5million it will be a bargain for Liverpool in my opinion as we were initially quoted £15million for him at the start of the summer. It just goes to show that patience does pay off at times in the transfer market.

  2. Clive says:

This is the best news i have heard all week! Now we are ready for the start of the season! Bring in Scott Dann and we are already in the Top 4! Still would like to see another striker come in to be honest if we have some cash left over.

  3. michael says:

hope this is true skysports news not saying anything about it. arsenal in talks for dann maybe kenny waiting on cahill. with only one year left on his contract we should try work out player plus cash deal for him. dann is good but in aggar we already have a talented but injury prone CB.

  4. Yes, yes yes this great news i agree with Clive, for now only Dann we need then we will talk about top two.

  5. Tony says:

Don’t worry abot Skysports, they know less than you, Tony Evans and Tony Barrett at The Times know more about Liverpool as they are scousers and reds too!!!!, follow them as they know!!!!

  6. Tony says:

Sky announce Enrique on Liverpool for medical now, Talksport confirm the deal also £6m……yippyyyyyy.

  7. chambers says:

A good sensible and economical acquisition in light of what was originally asked for his services. He will be a great asset to our new building defences.I hope though that we don’t forget the youngsters still need to be played to get them through as quickly as possible.

    • Bill Shankly says:

What the hell have we ever won with youngsters ?
Go & support some bargain bucket wheeler dealer side like Spurs you lemon .

  8. bri says:

Agree with everyone, looks like a good buy and cheap.havent watched him much tho personally but thought he was very good at anfield last season.his stats make impressive reading aswell

  9. Bill Shankly says:

If ya buy cheap ya buy twice .
This guy will make a good solid back up for Baines when he arrives .

  10. Gerrardious says:

Good signing. for those who havn’t seen the videos of the medical, the guy looks fit and kinda camera-shy. Comolli on the other hand looks like some1 ate his lunch.
    @Bill Shankly: Baines??

    • Bill Shankly says:

      Dont ya like Baines ?
Baines is the best footballing LB in England , I cant think of one single reason other than politics why he isnt Englands 1’st choice .

  11. Gerrardious says:

am not questioning his ability. am just looking at the circumstances. when was the last time Liverpool and Everton did business?

    • Bill Shankly says:

      Nick Barmby was it ?
Ablett went there in the ealy 90’s
Beardsley went there from us .
      Barmby went
Abel Xavier Went there from us
I’d say its been less than 10 years .
Dont worry about it , Money talks & they will sell if we want him .
Personally I think they are looking at a relegation battle this season , teir forward line is awful & their midfield is very weak & I dont like their CB’s much either .

  12. Gerrardious says:

If there’s still cash, I hope we can get a pacey CB, natural RW and 3rd (not backup as most suggest) striker. am not saying pace should be the basic criteria but it should be considered also. it is players like that who can make the difference against small teams who park the bus and defend for 90mins. Our team last season was full of internationals. we dont really have players who consistently beat their opponent for pace. It will be nice to get a ‘pacey like Torres’ striker to compliment swift and technically sufficient Suarez and physically imposing Carroll.
Teams need to fear us again.

    • Bill Shankly says:

I used to be a massive fan or pace in both a CB & a CF but as I have matured I have realized there are more important things .
      Take for example Cisse .
He had all the pace in the world but he was a disaster in front of goal at pressure moments , his link play outside the box was awful & his tactical awareness was terrible , when he played it was like a Liverpool 10 + 1 Cisse , it simply does not work .
If theres any manager who knows his forwards its Kenny so I’m not going to question what he’s up to but for me a forward has gotta be clinical in front of goal , his tactical movement has to be top class & his ability to bring other players into the game & keep opponents guessing with his touch & vision is vital .
Otherwise we may as well go watch Wigan or some other disjointed side that depends upon a one trick pony to scrape results from Footballs bottom of the barrel .
Theres a way to play the game & only top players can play that game for LFC , pace is a bonus beyond that & besides point out one slow professional footballer in any of Europes top 6 leagues & I’ll go out & buy Cisse back with me own money .
In this day & age with the professionalism in the game there isnt a bad athlete playing so you are talking about the difference between quick & slightly quicker .
Hare em scare em football isnt LFC style , possession play dictating the tempo of the game with a slow , slow … quick-quick-quick approach is LFC style & when its in full effect its almost impossible to play against .
