Reports this Monday are suggesting tahat Liverpool have agreed a fee with Newcastle for Jose Enrique, thought to be in the region of £5.5million. Now this is a huge knock-down fee compared to the £15million Newcastle wanted for the left-back at the start of the summer.

Newcastle are looking to offload Enrique this summer following is outburst on Twitter when the defender said Newcastle are a club that lacks ambition. Coupled with that, Enrique is still refusing to sign a new contract with the club as he only has one year left on his current deal, meaning Newcastle would want to sell him now rather than risk losing him on a free next summer.

If it is true that Liverpool are able to get Enrique for £5.5million, that could prove to be the best bit of business Dalglish has done this summer. Liverpool still need a new left-back even though we have Aurelio, Insua and Robinson. An experienced campaigner like Enrique could prove to be the answer after we have been linked with almost every left-back this summer.

I will be very surprised if this rumour that the Daily Star is running is true. I can not see Newcastle willing to sell Enrique for as little as £5.5million. But stranger things have happened in the football transfer market!
