Fabio Aurelio made his return to the Liverpool side on Saturday against Valencie and the Brazilian put in a decent performance for the Reds. We all know that Aurelio is a very capable left-back and we may not need to sign a new left-back if Aurelio is able to remain fit for the entire season.

The Brazilian came out and admitted this after the game on Saturday: “My problem has been the injuries and I’m aware of that but I still believe I can be better than in the past and more available.

“This season we have our games mostly once a week so it could be a good season for me to have a run of games and fill that gap.

“I had an injury to my calf at the beginning of pre-season so I’ve been working in the gym and on the bike. I have been involved with the team in the last week.

“I’m very pleased to have time on the pitch, especially because I felt very well. It was a good test after just one week with the team. Physically I didn’t feel behind the others.”

I know we can not risk saying we should not buy another left-back and budget on Aurelio being fit for the season but maybe as he states above, the fact that we have fewer games this season may mean that he remains fitter for longer.

Seriosly i dont tink we need a left back if aurielio wil be fit to play at list 26 matches, insua and robinson can mak up 4 d remender

  4. Moocher says:

I agree.. Aurelio is my first choice if he can stay fit. Offers much more than Insua & Robinson although I think JR will grow into a good LB. Insua no.

Agree.aurelio is a cultured Lb.great delivery at corners, free kicks and passes well.no slouch defending either.defence as whole were much better against valencia.think robinson,s gonna be a player like flanno.when enrique signs we,ll have good cover.

  7. nomad says:

I’ve faith Robinson as back up to be honest so think we are ok along with Insua.I wouldn’t turn down Enrique as the enemy is a Toon fan so I’ve watched him a fair bit.Looking good eitherway.

  8. John Mocker says:

OMG. Is there people out there that still believes that Aurelio will be fit for more than 1/4 of a season?

He is a wonderful player, but we can’t hope that he will play more than 20 games in the league because he is not going to, as simple as that.

We need a new LB, let’s hope Enrique comes.

    Agree with u Mocker.
I’o all for optimism but lets be realistic, Aurelio is gud but old and very unfit. He’ll be a good rotational player ‘if he’s fit’.
We still need a young, fit and very good leftback. Insua and Flanno are both promising but we all know who Kenny would prefer to develop.
