Liverpool were reportedly very interested in signing St Etienne midfielder Blaise Matuidi but now it seems like the highly rated 24-year-old Frenchman dubbed, the ‘new Claude Makelele’, will be joining PSG according to talkSPORT.

Matuidi is a tough tackling midfielder who would have come into the Liverpool squad to challenge Lucas for his place in the team. Liverpool still remain a bit thin when it comes to an enforcer in midfield because if Lucas gets injured we would have to call upon Jay Spearing or Conor Coady to fill in that role. But there are suggestions that with the number of midfielders we now have at Liverpool, we may play without a defensive midfielder, which in my opinion is not a good idea.

Apparently, Liverpool have missed out on Matuidi because we were only willing to pay £8million for the midfielder whereas PSG are prepared to pay more than that as they are now backed by Qatar Sports Investments who have a lot of cash!

It has been a very quiet day on the transfer rumour front for Liverpool with this story being the headline. Hopefully there will be more news to follow during the course of the weekend.

we had enough we don’t need him and if we really need him he’d start from the bench…lucas leiva is the best for me rite nw. He doesn’t get injured, hard tackling, good interceptions, help defensively but he only need to work on his short and we’ve got STEV’G .meireles and charlie adams to do that for him.
