As many Liverpool fans can testify the transfer window can be exciting but also frustrating. Newspapers, websites and twitter speculation links LFC to numerous players. I think two more signings will be sufficient to make a sustained title push this year. But if we can only afford one more signing we should make it a left back.

My reasons for the above statement are as follows:

1 – too many arrivals to the first team will mean longer to gel.
2 – too many signings will also hamper the chances of our young prospects breaking into the 1st team i.e. Spearing, Shelvey, Pacheco, Robinson, Flanagan, Sterling etc
3 – Many pundits calling for a centre half could be right but we have Carra, Agger, Skrtel and Soto. I would play Martin Kelly at centre half, tall, quick, determined and comfortable on the ball. Perfect!
4 – We need a left back more than any other position after the signings made already this summer.

For the left back position I think the answer lies close to home – Leighton Baines. His stats last year were impressive, he’s relatively young and English so he fits into our apparent transfer policy. Everton would struggle to turn down a bid in the region of £15million+. Aly Cissokho is unproven in English football and it would slightly worry me that Lyon seem willing to sell for less than they bought him for according to press reports. Enrique doesn’t fill me with confidence. He looks good going forward but not so good going back. Could he be a player who looks good in a mid table team and then struggle when he goes to a big team? I can see Baines playing in the red of Merseyside then Robinson eventually taking over as he looks like hes going to be a world beater.

So that only leaves some of the high earning deadwood to sell – Brad Jones, Phillip Degen, Raul Merieles (Only added as we can get a good fee for a player going to struggle to get in our new midfield and because he pulled out of a 50/50 in united game last year and Stevie G steamed in and got sent off), Poulsen, Jovonovic and Ngog.

That leaves us with a squad of:

GK – Reina/Doni
RB – G. Johnson/Flanagan
CH – Carra/Agger
CH – Kelly/Skrtel/Soto
LB – Baines/Robinson/Aurelio
RM – J. Cole/Maxi
CM – Gerrard/Henderson/Shelvey
CM – Adam/Lucas/Aqualani/Spearing
LM – Downing/Sterling
CF – Carroll/Kuyt
CF – Suarez/Pacheco

But Kenny may throw another curve ball – We Trust in Kenny – YNWA

OurKop.com would like to welcome Alan McConaghie to the team

I don’t agree that we need a LB before a CB .. should Agger get injured (and history suggests he will) and one other CB join him on the treatment table for any length in time, we would be in serious trouble defensively. Even though we do not have a reliable specialist LB currently, we have a lot more cover in that position than CB.

It would be good to sign a left sided player who could play across the backline though – someone like Agger, but with a stronger body.

    good job, pal…

if we like to fully challeng MUTD,we must buy leftback;Baines/ENRIQUe and Centerback;Diego Godin/G.cahil.But kenny knows more than any one for LFc!!we trust in kenny!

  4. Tony says:

    That would kill Evertonians, wow!!!

  5. Bobby says:

HAHAHA, 15mil for baines? Your joking right? Even if we would consider an offer (which we wouldnt consider for Baines) it would have to be at least 25mil. I mean seriously, he is the best LB in the league and well if Downing is 20mil, makes Bainesy easily 25+ since Baines probably had more assists and goals than Downing as a LB. Baines to Liverpool, haha, nice one lad

  6. Clive says:

I seriously doubt we will be able to sign Baines. He would be the perfect signing for us but i can not see Everton selling him. Enrique is going to be the left-back we sign but i do not rate him. He will be another Dossena in my opinion. There is generally a shortage of left-back in the game today so why don’t we just put faith in Robinson and tell him, “Lad, this is it. This is your chance to make a name for yourself”

  7. Bracey says:

Wow totally agree with the first comment about injuries, we also have defender who can play makeshift left back. Centre back first then maybe a left back.

Baines though, please come on we arent playing Footy Manager, too decent a site to have this kind of crappy article on it.

how can you have a 27 man squad rules state it has to be 25

  9. Dave says:

I think baines would be a great singing and would want to come after all he’d want to play for a big club however I believe the next signing has to be a centre half as the comments above state I think we have decent enough cover as most of are full backs can play RB and LB

  10. michael says:

would get rid of soto and bring in dann. does anyone know if oscar wendt has a new club yet?

  11. Craig says:

I agree baines is the best prospect for our very weak LB position.. Kelly was originally a CB so im sure with the comfort of 1st team football he showed im sure he could play across the back 4!! Skrtel, kelly, carra, wilson, soto, agger leaves us plenty of cover in the CB position…. Although from previous statements from comolli ” signing to rock the epl” and ” we still havnt replaced torres” im still expecting a marque signing…. YNWA in kenny we trust

  12. @Bobby says:

@Bobby . Another idiot thinking baines is the Best LB in the league . Do you know who is ashley cole ? Patrick evra ? Who is 1st choice for england and who is 2nd choice? Real Idiot

  13. King Kenny says:

I don’t agree on selling merieles he played real well once Kenny came in

  14. Craig says:

Meireles is a massively over-rated player, he doesnt tackle and gets pushed off the ball easily.. The guy that wrote this is spot on about baines look at his stats look at his ability defending and going forward… Cole and evra arent the players they were 2 years ago!! Everton would def listen to offers around 15m they are a selling club

  15. Oscar says:

Merelies is not a high-earning waste in comparison to other members of the squad. Merelies is on 30,000 a week, the same as Nabil El Zahr, half that of jovanovic and a third of Joe Cole’s huge 90,000 a week.

  16. Craig says:

Yeh but he wants a wage increase, and can only play 1 position AM were we have bought henderson and gerrard is top 3 in the world in that position… Hes not big enough to be a box to box midfielder! And its obvious those high earners you talk about arent in king kenny’s plans and will get the boot!! Put it this way i wouldnt lose any sleep if he was to leave…
