Liverpool’s new signing, Brazilian goalkeeper, Doni is happy to finally be a Liverpool player. There was a time during the transfer window when it seemed that his move from Roma to Liverpool would not take place but thankfully he has signed for us now and he is ready to get going to provide cover for Pepe Reina and at the same time push the Spanish international and keep him on his toes.

“It is an honour to be at a club like Liverpool after leaving Roma,” Doni told skysports.com.

“I was happy at Roma, but Liverpool is one of those clubs that when the opportunity to go there comes along you have to take it with both hands.

“I would like to thank everyone at Roma and the fans for what they did for me during my time there and I am excited about my new challenge at Liverpool.

“I would also like to thank my agent Ricardo Sarti for making it happen.

“I am looking forward to playing for the Liverpool fans and it will help I will have my fellow Brazilians Lucas and Fabio Aurelio there to help me settle in and I promise to do my best for the club.”

It will be very hard for Doni to displace Pepe in the starting lineup but I am glad we have a goalkeeper like Doni now who can come into the side if Pepe gets injured. We have been very lucky since Pepe joined Liverpool that he has not picked up any long term serious injuries. Just in-case that happens this season (which I hope it does not), we have an international class keeper on the bench.

With Pepe’s double hernia operation, is he going to be ready for the start of the season? If so, I hope Doni gets off on a flyer!
