With speculation that Liverpool are close to signing Lyon’s left-back Aly Cissokho being reported off the mark, attention has now focused back to Newcastle’s Spanish left-back Jose Enrique. It was not clear why Liverpool have lost interest in Cissokho but suggestions were that Liverpool would rather sign Enrique than Cissokho. That makes sense to me as Enrique already has Premier League experience and would not take time to adjust to the league unlike Cissokho.

It is understood that Enrique wants to move from Newcastle this summer as he has not signed a new contract. He is after a team that is in the Champions League which may be a hindrance in his move to Liverpool. Arsenal are the other team reportedly interested in Enrique but Arsene Wenger has made it clear that he does not want to sign a new left-back even following the departure of Gael Clichy to Manchester City. Ideally, Enrique would have loved to join Arsenal but if they do not want him then he may have to join Liverpool. I have no problem with that, as long as he is committed to the club and gives his all.

Enrique may easily forget about his Champions League ambitions for this coming season as I am sure Dalglish and Comolli would be able to convince him about the current project taking place at the club and why it is a good place to be right now.

Enrique who is only 25-years-old was priced at £15million by Newcastle but I am sure that figure would drop to the £10million mark as he only has one year left on his contract and Newcastle would be silly not to cash in on him now if he does not sign a new contract.

In my opinion, Enrique may prove to be third last signing we make this summer as we still need a centre back and a backup striker.

how the hell is enrique valued at 10 to 15 when someone like clichy is only 7. newacastle are seriously dreaming if they think anyone will pay close to that amount!!!

  2. Al says:

£5m for Enrique is plenty; one year left on his contract.

Not worth anywhere near £10m – dream on newcastle

  3. M. says:

10-12 million at best, but that in US$. NUFC is dreaming from the AC transfer.

  4. Jeff says:

Enrique would be a good signing, but :not for more than 7 mill,

  5. Chambers says:

It appears they are dealing with Liverpool and therefore know we will pay absurd amounts for players.

  6. kkkersh says:

oh why buy.buy.buy is enough.i felt nothing wrong witi insua during rafa’s era,he was superb during the match against malaxia.nd also we have aurelio.

  8. Nick says:

Who’s Malaxia? Insua’s a pudding. Milk turns quicker, Aurelio can’t play 2 games in a row so we need a specialist LB in offer them £2m+Insua.

  9. RedMan123 says:

I say we keep insua, solid back up.

    8 – 9 mil on enrique max.

  10. Paul says:

  12. RoGue says:

I say no more than 5m for Enrique.

  13. m kop says:

I would pay 8 or 9 mil. for him as he is probably better than Clichy.

We desparately need a left back but this should not give way for Insua’s exit. He is one of my favourites in the current anfield squard. He can help the coming left back defender incase of injuries.
