Caught Offside is speculating that Liverpool may be ready to make a move for Everton’s left-back Leighton Baines. This speculation has been met with a lot of comments coming from both Liverpool and Everton fans.

There is no doubt that Baines is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and he would be a great addition to Liverpool, but the politics surround the move would be great. Firstly, Baines is an Everton player and moving from Everton to Liverpool is never easy. Everton manager David Moyes, would not sanction such a sale even if the money we offer is too good to turn down.

Baines is one of Everton’s star players right now and could you imagine how the Everon fans would feel losing one of their best players and especially him joining Liverpool?

Let us not forget that Baines grew up supporting Liverpool and actually had a spell at the club. Speaking to Four Four Two back in 2004, Baines had this to say:
As a boy I supported Liverpool. As a local lad I used to watch from the Kop when Robbie Fowler was making his name. I started out at Liverpool’s Centre of Excellence and although it was disappointing when nothing came of it, I was lucky that both Wigan and Wolves wanted to sign me.

Liverpool may not be in this quandary today if Baines had made it as a youngster at the club. But I guess at that time, you can never be sure how great a player is going to turn out.

But stranger things have happened in the transfer market in the past. Nick Barmby made the move from Everton to Liverpool in 2000, so one can not say it is impossible for Baines to join Liverpool this summer.

Arsenal were thought to be leading the race in signing Baines but Wenger has now come out and said that he will not sign a new left-back this summer following their sale of Gael Clichy to Manchester City. That leaves the door open for Liverpool to make a move. Baines fits the profile of what exactly Liverpool is looking for; talented left-back who can defend and attack. He may be 26-years-old but that is not too old for the new Liverpool policy of buying the best British talent on the market.

ElPistoleroJFT96 has put together a video of Baines’ performances last season for Everton.

If he wants the transfer then nothing should stop him.

Liverpools new policy is to buy the best English talent but we will not pay stupid money for older players again. Dodgson spent a fortune on Poulson and Koncheski and we are letting them go for nothing. So, no, we will not be buying Baines he’s not worth the hassle. Besides which this is lazy hacks looking for a story without looking for the truth, sounds a bit like Murdoch Group reporting.
