We were hoping for a bit more transfer news this Monday but nothing much seems to be going on. No news could be a good thing as hopefully Comolli and Dalglish are working quietly behind the scenes. Liverpool continue to be linked with moves for Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing but nothing concrete yet from any of those deals.

The biggest transfer rumour doing the rounds today involves Juan Mata. Now that the European Under 21 Championships are over and Spain have won the tournament, Mata can start to think about his club future.

Valencia are desperate to sell him as they are heavily in debt. Now Arsenal are being linked with a move for Mata. And the reports suggest that they are set to make an £18million for him which would be a new club record for Arsenal. Manchester City were also said do be interested in Mata and we know if it comes down to a bidding war, Manchester City can out bid us.

The Arsenal rumour is interesting to me as I never thought Arsenal would be after a player such as Mata as they have Nasri who plays similarly to Mata. Maybe Wenger wants to simply come out and make one big marquee signing and he thinks Mata would be the easiest target as he is up for sale.

Hopefully Liverpool can convince Mata to join us ahead of Arsenal if indeed we are after him. The best way to approach this one is to tell Mata that he may join Arsenal now and play Champions League football this season but next season it will be a different story as Arsenal will be replaced in the Top 4 by Liverpool.

we should have spent the 20m on Mata instead of the future bust Henderson.. could have had player of the tournament.. instead we get mediocre British crap who stumbled around looking lost the entire tournament.. I feel like Houllier is in charge of transfers again…
