Ashley Young in on the verge of signing for Manchester United for £20million. This is bad news for Liverpool especially since we had been after the England winger for a while now in our bid to add some pace and width to the side. I had thought that Young would opt to join Liverpool ahead of Manchester United as we would have guaranteed him more first team football than United but it seems like Young has opted to join United because he wants to play in the Champions League.

I guess this now means that our search for a winger goes on and now we may have to put more effort in trying to sign Young’s Aston Villa team mate Stewart Downing.

Why Liverpool are not putting in more effort to sign Valencia’s Juan Mata remains a mystery to me as he is head and shoulders better than Young or Downing. I am hoping that the lack of news on Mata means that we are doing things the Liverpool way and trying to make this signing quietly, behind the scenes.

LFC should be trying to sign better than Young!
