As the week is coming to an end now we can firmly put to bed the speculation surround the future of Fabio Coentrao. This has been one transfer story that has been making the rounds this week as we have waited for any words from either the player himself or Benfica and Liverpool.

Coentrao has taken the first step and has come out and said that he wants to play for Real Madrid.

Speaking at a training camp in Portugal, Coentrao said: “What I want is to play for Real Madrid. It is the best club in the world and the only place I would leave Benfica for.

“Madrid has the best players in the world and I have many friends there. Nothing has been done but I hope the signing will go ahead.

“Benfica understand my decision and I intend to make it a good deal for them. I will be grateful to them all my life.”

I guess that’s that then and we can now forget about Coentrao joining Liverpool and we look for a new left-back. I like it when players come out and say where they want to play and we do not waste our time chasing after players who do not want to play for us.
