Those were the words said by Sergio Aguero as the Athletico Madrid star seeks a move to a new club this summer. The 22-year-old Argentine striker is wanted by a host of clubs including Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus, Manchester City, Real Madrid – and Liverpool. A price tag of around £40million is being put on Aguero and that may mean Liverpool may be priced out of any deal for him.

“I said long ago that when I wanted to go, I would say so publicly,” said the Aguero on his official website. “The time has come. So I have kept my word and here I am.”

“I find it hard to leave Atletico. It hurts me and saddens me. But I don’t find it hard to explain why I am doing it.”

“I’ve thought about it for a long time and I’m convinced that I must be true to myself. I think that I should not rule out the possibility to keep learning, to keep growing.”

“I want to clearly express my appreciation to the club for the efforts it has made to give me a salary that equates with those of the largest clubs in the world.”

“I want to say also that this decision has been maturing for some time. The issue was discussed and agreed with Atletico last year on the occasion of the renewal of my contract.”

Liverpool had looked at signing Aguero before getting Suarez and Carroll so there is no way I can see us spending another large fee on another striker. But if Mr. Henry has the cash to spend then an addition like Aguero would be a massive boost to Liverpool. Can you imagine some games where we could possibly play with Suarez, Aguero and Carroll upfront?

Don’t understand what the point of publishing stories even remotely linking him to us. He wouldn’t come to us not even playing in Europe, let alone our inability to compete with the richest clubs in the world for players of his calibre.
