The fine form Raul Meireles has shown for Liverpool this season will result in him getting a new contract. Some of you may be surprised why Raul is getting a new contract if he only joined the club last summer, the reason is, Raul arrived from Porto on an inexpensive contract thought to be around £30,000 a week.

When Meireles signed, he was offered a verbal agreement that his deal would be reviewed at the end of the season if he enjoyed a successful first year. Meireles has surpassed expectations as the only one of Roy Hodgson’s signings to make a real impact, and is now ready to open negotiations to extend his stay at Liverpool and get a new contract inline with the other top earners at the club.

I am in the minority who think footballers are paid far too much. When you see players missing the target from the spot for about 80,ooo a week (i,m not talking about keepers saving) you have to wonder…. However, Mireles is a quality player well deserving to be on a par with other quality players so good luck to him. We would not want to lose him.
