The Daily Mail is reporting that Arsenal and Liverpool may be priced out of a move for Mamadou Sakho due to the £20m price tag. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tends to have excellent knowledge of young French players and Sakho has been on his radar for some time. Liverpool’s Damien Comoli is also said to be a big fan. Arsene Wenger does have other targets and if he fails to sign this talented 21 year old he may turn his attentions to Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa or Emir Sprahic.
Despite his young age Sakho has gained a fair amount of experience. He has played nearly 100 league games for Paris Saint-Germain and represented France at various youth levels. Between 2006 and 2008, Sakho played for the French U16, U17, U18 and U19 making over 30 appearances in total. Between 2008-2010 Sakho has gone on to represent the U21’s and the full French team. Sakho also seems to have some ability as a leader and has served as a captain in most of the French youth teams he has played in. This includes captaining the French U21 team. His 6ft2in frame suggests that he has required presence to be a top quality central defender and he has a knack of scoring vital goals, providing 4 league goals this season alone.
£20m for Mamadou Sakho is crazy! Liverpool would be better off looking elsewhere for a defender. Gary Cahill from Bolton would be a much better option to spend £20m on.
