11 days into the January transfer window and Liverpool have not signed anyone yet but then again, there have not been any major transfers during the window yet. If there is one team that needs to sign some players and big name players at that, it is Liverpool.

With Kenny Dalglish now manager, we should expect Liverpool to make some pretty decent signings unlike those of Roy Hodgson. Dalglish talked about the ‘lure’ of Liverpool when he was talking about Steve Clarke joining the back room staff and I hope that Dalglish is able to lure some world class players to Liverpool now that he is in-charge.

Liverpool need a left back and urgently. Fabio Aurelio is now fit and playing in that position but we do not know how long he will remain fit as he is prone to injuries. His current replacement would be Paul Konchesky who in my opinion is one of the worst left backs to ever play for the club. Thus a new left back is required and if we look around Europe right now for one, we can not look past Portugal’s Fabio Coentrao.

In my opinion he is the best available left back in Europe and we need to sign a player of his caliber so that we push for a Top 4 finish. Coentrao is currently playing for Benfica and maybe he needs a new challenge now in a bigger league. Coentrao had an excellent World Cup for Portugal, starting all of their games and providing an excellent source of width, pace and some accurate crosses, attributes that have been lacking in the Liverpool team right now. It is suggested that Benfica want £16 million for Coentrao. This is a lot of money but we have to spend if we are to be successful. I hope gone are the days when Liverpool settle to by average players because they do not have the money. The Fenway Sports Group now need to show us how deep their pockets are.

absolutly. him, negredo and pablo hernandez as well as a centre back!

Great player and worth every penny of the £16 mill, could well turn out more if Chelsea get involved. I’d also be looking to sign Negredo and Diarra. Glen Johnson is clearly a right mid and not a right back. Kelly is a class right back. I’d also right now be playing Wilson at the back with Agger, if he’s good enough, he’s old enough!

I totally agreed. We need fullback who can offer width, pace, flair and a lot of good crosses into the box and Coentrao certainly fits the bill.I would also recommend a fullback by the name of Ally Cissokho.A complete fullback in my humble opinion.

No he is not what we need! Just as we were wrong to spend big money on Johsnon when we still had a massive deficiency of matchwinners, we would still be wrong to do so now.

All efforts should be spent on bringing in quality supporting strikers and widemen, before strengthening the spine of the team with a more physically dominant centreback and central midfielder.

Top quality fullbacks are a luxury rather than a necessity, and regardless of their quality, we can cope with having average fullbacks for another season or two much more than we can cope with continuing with average forwards or a weak foundation to the team.

Agreed. Full of speed, sharp on the ball, great tackling, magnificent additude to football.. what more do you need as a full back?
