Lucas is set to be rewarded for his fine form this season by being offered a new contract at Liverpool. We all know that Lucas has had a tough time ever since he arrived at Liverpool. Many fans have not been behind him but over the last couple of months he has rolled up his sleeves and he is starting to play well. I know there are still many fans out there who do not believe in Lucas and would want to see him leave the club.

Roy Hodgson was asked if there were any contract talks with Lucas on the horizon, Hodgson said: “I think there is, yes. A couple of weeks ago Damien (Comolli) mentioned to me about him wanting to get in touch with Lucas’s agent to discuss a new contract, but I can’t quite frankly remember where we are.

“Certainly if you ask me the question ‘Is Lucas welcome at the club and would we like to keep him?’ then the answer is a resounding ‘Yes’.”

Player of the season so far… man of the match against Chelsea… if everyone was as committed as him we would be alot higher up the table!

Considering the amount of criticism this lad has taken since joining the club I struggle to see how any LFC Fan can still have a problem with him. He has continued to work hard every season, has adapted to the new position he has been asked to play in and has adapted to the English game. He has consistenly strived to improve whether it be in the gym to bulk himself up to deal with the tougher league or on the pitch where he has developed his passing range and even shown his ability to score cracking goals.

He may never be a great like Gerrard but every club needs professionals like Lucas who accept all criticism and work harder to show their worth rather than whinging about it on twitter etc.

Never thought I would say this last season, but categorically YES, he does deserve a new contract.
