There was a surprise face in the stands on Monday night when Liverpool took on Aston Villa. Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso was in Anfield to witness Liverpool trounce Aston Villa 3-0. So I ask myself the question, “What was Xabi Alonso doing at Anfield?”

La Liga is not a break yet so you can not say Alonso was here on holiday. And even if that were the case, why would he come to the rain and gloom at Liverpool and leave the slightly warmer temperatures of Madrid? Or could it simply be that Alonso misses Liverpool? I am sure deep down Alonso still has a soft spot for Liverpool. I will be the first to admit that I would love it if Alonso were to return to Liverpool one day but I think I am wishing for too much. It was great to see Alonso in the stands, it is not too often that you see a former player returning to watch his team play.

It is also said that Alonso joined up with Torres after the game to celebrate the birth of Fernando’s son.

Come back Xabi – maybe a swap deal with Glen Johnson and a few quid?

  2. gym blog says:

He obviously still has a place in his heart for Liverpool, this isn’t the first time he’s been back at Anfield. Also with Pepe breaking the clean sheet record he could have come to support him too.

  3. Nye says:

Xabi comes to the matches whenever he can, he is currently suspended so he came to watch us play, if you think hes coming back then you reading far too much into it.

    • Mike says:

Xabi Alonso is suspended for a match for a second yellow card in UEFA Champion league only but not affected in La Liga games.

Glad he was in the stands…who wouldnt visit the best club in the world.

    he should come back…

  5. Red4Life says:

People shouldnt read too much into it, although it was great to see him back and even better if there were to be a possibilty of re-signing him again.

It was obvious he had issues when rafa sounded out Barry from Villa – but who wouldnt? He obviously didnt want to leave in thefirst place and can argue he was pushed.

    come back Xavi

The last sentence of your article is the answer to your headline but I bet you already knew that the answer was to see his friends who are still here!

    Dude, seriously?
He’s on a red for UCL match this week
PLUS Nando is having his kid
PLUS He comes to games quite often……….

Dont be a rumor monger, that’s exactly what we don’t need: another amateurish LFC site spouting crap

Other than that, I have enjoyed your site so far.

  9. Chipko says:

He was over here to see Torres and his Missus, he had the time off ’cause of the ban from the red card.

I have it on good authority(my imagination) that Xabi is jockeying for a return to Anfield. There is a buyback clause in his contract with Real Madrid. Alonso detests Mourinho and is looking for a way back to the promised land.

This information could only be gleamed by a qualified analrapist 😉

        Desy Boy,

Not to be an ass or anything but it is to “glean” or “gleaning” There I go again, I just got all hot and bothered and just blew my load all over the place!

What ever the reason, it is good to see Xabi at Anfield. We can only dream of having him back in a red shirt though.

Xabi is just a good guy! He has maintained a good relationship with his former teammates, and is great friends with Torres. So it makes sense he would show up whenever he can. Class act in my book.

  13. Larsen says:

It shows that Alonso still has some friends in Liverpool and had loved he club while he was with Liverpool, unlike some money loving thugs like Mascherano who never loved the club which literally gave a second life.
What has happened is over, we wish Xabi for success and I know he will wish the same for Liverpool.

If u really love The Kop, no matter where u are, you will be loved back twice.YNWA

    • Scouser Tommy Wynette says:

Yeah – if Mascherano had a shred of decency he would have loved the club and city and would have lured Tevez in when Sir Alec Purple Glistening Head foolishly permitted aforementioned scarface to depart. Inter are going along well aren’t they?
