It is the weekend again and time to give my thoughts on the game tomorrow against West Ham. What first comes to my mind is that this should be a banker three points for Liverpool. We playing at home against a team at the foot of the table, surely we must win. But with the way thing have been going for Liverpool this season, it may not be as easy as that. What irks me even more is that West Ham will probably be looking at this game and thinking that they can get something from it. Teams should be fearing us and knowing that when they come to Anfield, they are going to leave with nothing!

Now looking at the team that is most likely going to be tasked with getting us three points: Gerrard is out of the game which is a huge blow to us but on the positive side we have four players fit and ready to go. Torres was a doubt but he has been passed fit so I have no doubt he will lead the line. Kuyt is also fit and if he is fit he is one of the first names on the team sheet. In defence Skrtel has also been passed fit to play but I am not sure he will start and may just find himself of the bench as Hodgson opts to stick with Carragher and Soto in central defence. Glen Johnson is also fit now and I am pretty sure he will get the nod ahead of Kelly at right back.

The main dilemma for Hodgson is in midfield following the injury to Gerrard and the suspension of Lucas. Poulsen is the most likely replacement for Lucas as on paper it is like-for-like but I believe Poulsen is a far worse player than Lucas. I hope he can prove me wrong this weekend. I would like to see Jonjo get a start alongside Poulsen. The boy has not covered himself in glory every since he joined us be as ‘The New Steven Gerrard’ he should be given a chance and let us see what he can do. Maxi and Raul will continue to operate out on the flanks with Kuyt behind Torres.

Probable Liverpool team: Reina, Konchesky, Carragher, Soto, Johnson, Maxi, Poulsen, Jonjo, Raul, Kuyt, Torres

On the scoreline prediction front, I am hoping and praying we get three points from this. I see us edging it 1-0.

What is your preferred starting lineup against West Ham and prediction?

dare i be realistic. Bottom of the table? then we will probably succumb to another toothless, defensive defeat or snatch a glorious 0-0 draw. Hodgson can then laud the fact of how well the team played then castigate on or two openly to the press! – A normal Saturday game at home in other words.

I expect us to win regardless, but if we want to deliver our best possible performance and start moving forwards again, we should switch to a system that compensates for our players’ lack of athleticism (e.g. 433), rather than continuing in a system that accentuates it (e.g. 4411)

From the squad that Hodgson has made available, the team should be:
    Reina
    Johnson-Kyrgiakos-Carragher-Konchesky
    Meireles-Poulsen-Shelvey
    Babel-Torres-Jovanovich

    Subs: Jones/Skrtel/Kelly/Spearing/Maxi/Kuyt/Ngog
