The speculation surrounding Pepe Reina leaving Liverpool does not want to end! Now today Peter Schmeichel has come out and said that he believes Manchester United should look to sign a goalkeeper like Pepe! Just keep quiet Schmeichel! I think all he is trying to do as stoke the fire and unsettle Reina. I am sure Schmeichel has watched Reina over the time he as been at Liverpool and has seen that Reina could easily be one day dubbed the best keeper to ever play in the Premiership ahead of Peter Schmeichel himself.

Now the last we heard from Pepe was that he was happy to stay at Liverpool for the rest of the season and see where Liverpool are come the summer. I am hoping though that with the love for Liverpool that Pepe has shown us ever since he arrived that he would never go join our biggest rivals. Pepe is the heart beat of Liverpool and loosing him would be a disaster. But in the world of football we are in today, one can never say never and you never know if Pepe would actually leave Liverpool and got to Manchester United. It is very possible!

So with that said, let us look at the scenario whereby Pepe does leave, who do we bring in? We have Brad Jones right now as our number two. Taking nothing away from him, I do not think he is good enough to become our new regular number one. We will need someone a bit more ‘bigger’. The names that have been thrown around today are Manuel Neuer and Maarten Stekelenburg.

I like the sound of Neuer, he is young at only 24 and is a full German international who represented his country at the World Cup this year. So he is ready for the big stage and would just step in straight into the first team. Now Stekelenburg is doing well at Ajax but at 28 (the same age as Pepe) he may not fit the age requirement that the new owners have. But I think when it comes to goalkeepers the ‘older’ ones are better.

So if Pepe were to leave (I pray he does not) then who do you think we should bring in?
